IN LOVING MEMORY
September 20, 1998 - March 22, 2010

It was with unimaginably heavy hearts that we escorted Mickey to the rainbow bridge.

He began showing symptoms of Degenerative Myopathy (DM) late in 2009.  Eventually, the disease took away his ability to walk.  Mickey deserved to pass with the dignity that he displayed either in the ring or at home with his family and we made the very painful decision to walk with him to the Rainbow Bridge.  To the very end, Mickey was the loving, alert, playful companion that he had always been.  He simply could not understand why his back legs would not respond to the things that he still wanted to do.

Mickey was our first show dog but more importantly, he had been an integral part of our family for a very, very long and  wonderful time.  We were blessed to have him and a day will not go by that we will not remember him.  He will always have a big place in our hearts and his memory will always bring a smile to our faces.

He will truly be missed.

We love you Mickey.

Please take a moment to remember Mickey by clicking on the MEMORIES OF MICKEY at the top of the page. Simply go to MICKEY to the left of the page and a MEMORIES OF MICKEY page will pop up.

This is how we remember Mickey in the ring; flying around, always with his happy face.  He brought a smile to all who watched.
BEST IN SHOW SPECIALTY
Mickey did not start his show career until he was two weeks shy of his first birthday.

He displayed the promise of big things to come by winning his first Best of Breed out of the 12 - 18 Months class.

He finished big, winning his championship at 20 months taking Best of Winners at a four point major on the Mission Circuit. The next day, in his first outing as a "Special", he took Best of Breed, beating, at the time, the #2 and #4 Boxers in the country.

BEST OF BREED
Mickey began his show career with handler Kimberlie Steele. Kimberlie together with her father, Gary Steele, brought Mickey his first major under Judge Houston Clark at the "Turkey Circuit" in Stockton. Mickey was also pointed under handlers Cheryl Cates and Laurie Jordan-Fenner. Laurie guided Mickey to his first Best of Breed taken out of the 12 - 18 months class, also under Judge Houston Clark. Mickey was finished by Jimmy Bettis who also brought a Best of Breed win.

After a one year hiatus, Mickey convinced us that he really wanted to continue his show career. In October, 2001, we began showing him again with his half-sister, Katie. In his first show back, after not being in the ring for a year, he was, in the words of his then, new handler, Wendy Bettis, "awesome".

Kimberlie Steele assumed handler responsibilities for Mickey, as a "special".  She guided him to his first BISS win.
We want to thank all of those who have contributed to Mickey's successes.

Mickey loves to show. He brings an attitude into the ring that exudes confidence, bordering on cockiness. As many will attest, he is a joy to watch in the ring.

Showing versatility, he has earned the Canine Good Citizenship Award from the AKC.

EIN-VON BOXERS
Our thanks to Tony Pierson of Ein-Von's Boxers for his support and encouragement during our rookie period.

We especially applaud him for the patience he exhibited while answering our many questions, sometimes over and over.

We thank him for entrusting one of his "boys" with us.
